We camped for the long weekend from 18-21 March 2011. The camp was very full and we pitched camp in the centre of Block A (closest to the swimming pool, shop and hall) as that was the only area where we could find 2 adjacent sites for our group of 8. The setting is beautiful with most sites shaded, but the ablution facilities is in dire need of an upgrade.

On all three nights we had to endure 3 different groups of extremely loud and drunk campers, swearing and shouting till 03:00 with no regard for fellow campers - not the kind of exposure I want for my 6 and 10 year old children. Also no chance of getting any rest.

Apart from one vehicle that patrolled the camp at around 19:00 on Friday announcing that no music was allowed, there was no visible security, patrolling or reprimanding of misbehaving campers noticed.

Berg River's web site claims to be a "small, family-orientated resort for people who are interested in the simple things in life." Definitely not true.

Don't go there during weekends or holidays. Go as a day visitor because they have lovely shaded lawns and braai facilities. Campers were reasonably well behaved during the day.

I will not stay there again.
